What a great way to learn about photography in the comfort of your own home! Thank you IPS for coming up with this online course. I had wanted to take some more formal studies in photography for years, but never had the money to take the course onsite. Since the price is more affordable it will give many other out there like me the opportunity to learn about photography.

I would highly recommend taking the online course. I was worried about not getting enough one on one training, but the folks at IPS were amazing! If I had any question at all I could shot them an email and they would get back with me right away. The group sessions once a week was also very beneficial, it helped me gain perspective on how other students perceived photography and helped me see different aspects of photography I might not have seen with out them. Some of you may be thinking’What I have to write papers?’ I wasn’t so sure myself, but after the first few I realized how important it was for me to have to write it down, it helped me retain a lot more of the information. I think you will learn a lot more if you have to put your thoughts down on paper, and it will also make you think about photography in a way you might have never thought before!

    Thank you!

I love the IPS courses! I have always loved photography and wanted to learn more and IPS was an easy way to learn from home. The lessons were superior quality and the papers, photo assignments, and group sessions helped me gain all I could from this course. I learned a ton of useful knowledge about the camera and have been taking senior and couple pictures since the class ended. :) I would definitely recommend these classes to anyone wanting to learn professional level camera skills or just for fun.

I wanted to take a photography course to improve my skills, but never had enough time or money to take a live course. The Digital Photography 1 online course was the perfect solution for me! I learned so much during this eight week course that helped my photography improve, from manually controlling my camera settings to recognizing things that either improved or detracted from my images. The written papers helped me think through the things I was learning, and the weekly critique sessions helped me to better understand the things I needed to work on. The instructor was great, always available to answer questions, and helped me recognize and work through on issue I was having with my camera tinting my photos off color. I highly recommend this course to anyone who cannot get enough time off of work or cannot afford the live classes!

This class is definitely a great place to start for people who want to learn more about photography! You’ll learn about how to manually operate your camera’s settings and be challenged to think differently about how you photograph your subject. Each week I was incorporating a new technique to my photography and taking pictures that represented the lessons I had learned. You’ll write papers, have a once a week live critique session, submit weekly photo assignments, and watch online lectures. The class is very hands-on and interactive, and you can contact your instructor at any time. The grades you receive for your work are also instructive because they let you know the areas you need to improve. For me, this class was much more beneficial than just reading a book about photography, and you can make your own work schedule since the videos are prerecorded. I also appreciate the Christian values that are encouraged in the class, and how it seeks to implement Christ honoring standards in photography. I would definitely recommend the class to others who are looking for ways to improve their photographic skills!

For a couple years, I have wanted to learn more about photography so that I could take mine to the next level. IPS has given me that opportunity. I learned so much in only 8 weeks. A plus for me was that you do not have to be a certain age or in college to qualify to take this course. I am only seventeen and was still accepted. At first, it was kind of scary to think that I was getting graded for everything, but they gave me an incentive to work harder. I really appreciated that IPS taught me to keep Christ in the center of my photography. Overall, I could not have asked for a better experience. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to take a photography course.

Digital Photography 1 taught me how to use my camera! Before I took this class, I struggled with trying to teach myself from random internet articles and videos, but nothing seemed to really stick. It’s hard to learn how everything works together! Through this class, I learned how to shoot in manual mode, which seemed like a major feat! Like all arts, photography has a very technical side to it, so taking this class helped me learn the technical things I was struggling to learn on my own. Overall, this class is a solid introduction to photography and using your DSLR.

Rowan Gillson’s lessons in Digital Photography 1 are concise, professional, and enjoyable. Before I took the course, I had a moderate knowledge of the camera and photography, but DP1 took that knowledge to deeper levels of understanding. Even if you think you know your camera like the back of your hand, I highly suggest you take this course; even as a review, this course is worth it, but I’m positive you will learn something new. If, on the other hand, you’ve never touched a dSLR in your life, DP1 will walk you step-by-step through all the necessary information you need to become very comfortable with your camera. There’s a reason DP1 is a five-star course, and I highly suggest you find out why!

This photography class helped me lay the foundation of my photography. I thought that I knew a lot of basic photography skills, but there was still room to learn. Through this course, I learned how to use light, composition, and my camera’s functions to create better images. More specifically, I learned how to set a custom white balance, utilize my white balance shift, and much more!

“The best journeys answer questions that in the beginning we didn’t even think to ask.” (Author Unknown) The journey of photography is long, and the road isn’t often easy. However, that is what makes it a challenge as well as intriguing and enjoyable! In Digital Photography 1 so many questions were answered. Some I knew I wanted to ask, and some that I had never even thought of. Not a lecture went by without learning a thing or two (or twenty). From the technicalities of Lightroom to the creative details in posing to the ever astonishing exposure, the learning never ceased. If you are looking to start a professional career as a photographer or simply want to pick up a fun hobby this class is a great way to get started!! :)

Great class and great teacher! I started out with zero photography experience and ended up with many foundational tools and concepts in my tool belt. I was a “happy snapper”–now I am a budding amateur photographer with potential to pursue photography professionally. Overall, I really enjoyed learning in this relaxed and informative environment. Fives stars for excellent, sequential, and relevant class content. And five stars for positive, knowledgable, and helpful teacher feedback.
