PWP:San Antonio | Day 2 – Tuesday

Looking forward to the events of the day, I headed out with my running buddies for a jog early this morning. It was tiring yet refreshing. Afterwards we met with the others for a delicious breakfast; then gathered for a quick session before heading out on our tour for the day. My excitement began to build knowing that we were shooting in downtown San Antonio, which was full of vivacity.

Our assignments that were handed to us were pretty challenging; but since I like challenges, I was determined to embrace them with my best. Stepping out of the vehicle, we assembled our gear as well as our groups and headed out. The sights I saw, although not always immediately inspiring, were abundant with life and emotion. Whether I fulfilled my assignments completely, I’m not sure; but I certainly had fun and learned a lot besides photography including, the fact that good communication and flexibility is important within a group of inspired photographers and friends.

PWP:San Antonio | Day 3 – Wednesday

All prize winning photographers have one thing in common, they have mastered the use of exposure. As an aspiring photographer, one of my greatest weaknesses has been correct exposure. Exposure is the use of available light, aperture setting, shutter speed, and ISO to accurately capture a subjects personality. Incorrect exposure takes the attention away from a subject by either applying too much, or too little.

During today’s training I was given simple tricks so as to create an accurately exposed image, such as: the shutter speed needs to be the same, or more than, the focal length of the zoom. I have been amazed in three days how far I have come and look forward to what results I will have at the end of the week!

PWP:San Antonio | Day 1

IPS has been so fun, educational and a time to learn more about photography with the purpose of using it to glorify God! And all in a Christian atmosphere! I love how the instructors shared with us rules and techniques of photography and immediately allowed us to implement those rules with a hands on photo shoot! I especially loved and appreciated the critique time in the evening with one of the instructors. It was such a perfect time to learn from my own photographs, and to begin to train my mind to see as a photographer!

San Antonio Instructor Switch

San Antonio Instructor Switch

Don’t you even worry! It’s only a volcano. No doubt you’ve heard about the hundreds of thousands of passengers stranded as tens of thousands of flights were grounded as ash from Eyjafjjoell filled the European skies. Well, one of those unfortunate would be travellers is IPS Instructor Hannah Brandau who had been participating in PhotoEx:Ireland. The extensive delays have required that we perform an instructor swap for the Prizewinning Photography workshop in San Antonio next week. Christina Dickson will now be joining Lead Instructor Rob Bennett and Sarah Danaher to bring the wonders of photography to a nearly full class.

Here’s to a safe flight home Hannah (hopefully today!!) and to a great San Antonio workshop!
